Houseboat Generaal Praag is impressive in every way
The entire barge is bright and lofty because of plenty of windows around and also in the raised roof
With the enormous length of 50 meters, the ship houses two living rooms with associated kitchen, 6 bedrooms and 5 full bathrooms.
Additionally it has an unique courtyard / patio of 36 m2 under an electric sliding roof.
It's a very rare opportunity that such a spacious houseboat is for sale.
The abundance of space and convenient layout makes this property very suitable to share, as an investment for parents with children studying or for a studio or practice at home.
The possibilities are limitless...
Impressive is also the very luxurious finish of the interior, taken care of down to the last detail and completely ready to move into.
The ship was completely renovated in 2013. The superstructure was raised; therefor the red cedar ceilings are extra high.
The entire ship was provided with white plastered walls, cement screed floors and underfloor heating, finished with, among other things, slate, marmoleum and walnut parquet.
In addition, the entire ship was optimally insulated in accordance with modern standards.
The entrance is though the wheel house, a beautifull bright 4.5 meter high, split level space.
Short stairs bring you to the spacious kitchen with extensive built-in appliances and plenty of space for a large dining table; windows all around, French doors to the terrace on the rear deck (facing south) with a view of the Amstel towards the Rembrandt Tower.
Downstairs: bedroom/study with bathroom en suite;
And next, the truly spacious living room (height 3.2 m) with french doors to the covered courtyard garden.
Here you can enjoy living outside inside year round
The courtyard ( 5.8 X 6.2 m) has underfloor heating and an electrically operated sliding roof.
Tropical plants, an outdoor kitchen and anything else you love will do the rest.
On the other side of the courtyard is the master ensuite bedroom and a third bedroom or optional walk-in closet-room.
The next section, the front part of the vessel, has its own entrance via the terrace on the front deck, with a view on the Amstel River, towards the center of Amsterdam.
Layout: living area in the extra high bow of the ship; spacious living room (split level); 3 bedrooms with 3 attached bathrooms; ample storage space; connection to the service area, emergency exit and the rest of the ship.
Not only inside, but also outside the Generaal Praag is in an excellent state of maintenance.
The rich history of this sturdy, extra solidly built ship starts in 1926 when it came from the yard as a motorless barge of the Kempenaar type under the name Geertruida.
Initially, it transported freight in the Belgian-Dutch border area. In 1939 she was requisitioned by the Dutch government, after which she served as a hospital ship in Rotterdam during the Second World War. It came to Amsterdam in the 1980s and was given a residential destination.
The beautiful berth on the Amstel is convenient for shops and restaurants in the popular De Pijp district and easily accessible from the high way.
There is ample (paid) parking in front of the door.
